Peaches, plums and nectarines contain bioactive substances that have the potential to prevent diabetes and cardiovascular diseases associated with obesity.
A study conducted by the U.S. Agency Texas AgriLife Research showed that phenolic substances in stone fruits can be a weapon against the "metabolic syndrome", in which obesity and inflammation can lead to serious health problems.
Experiments on different cell lines helped to establish that these phenolic compounds have anti-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory effect, and prevent the deposition of fat. In addition, these drugs can reduce the oxidation of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein)associated with cardiovascular diseases.
According to scientists, stone fruits unique in that their mixtures bioactive substances act simultaneously on different components of the disease. So, four major phenolic groups (anthocyanins, chlorogenic acid, quercetine derivatives and catechins affect different cells in fat, macrophages and vascular endothelial.
Peaches, plums and nectarines contain similar phenolic group, but in different proportions, such that they all serve as good sources of healthful substances and can complement each other.
A team of specialists Texas AgriLife Research plans to continue the study of the role of each type of phenolic substances in the work of the molecular mechanisms and check the results obtained in experiments on mice.
The report on the study will be available in August at a meeting of the American chemical community in Philadelphia.
