Researchers from the Institute of theoretical physics at the Vienna technical University, suggested the use of black holes (BH) for the search for axions, all attempts to discover that using experimental particle accelerators has not yet been successful.
"Axions " - pseudoscalar particles with length of a wave up to many kilometers arising from the interaction of high-energy photons and atoms, is not in vain called by brand of washing powder: they are intended to "wash" quantum chromodynamics from the problem of strong CP violation. That's only to find this "washing powder" did not manage.
"Axions " from different sources sought specialists CERN, ADMX and PVLAS; in the latter case, even it was announced about their detection... But alas. It was considered that " axions " radiated by the Sun due to the effect of Primakov, they announced essential component of the galactic halo of dark matter - but neither in the Solar system, nor on the edge of the galactic nothing could be found.
Nevertheless physics Daniel Grumiller (Daniel Grumiller) and Gabriela Mocanu (Gabriela Mocanu) believe that you can find them, just to search for these elusive pseudoscalar particles need to use more powerful accelerators. As is known, BH, according to the Penrose process accelerates part of falling in the gravitational field of a matter to speeds that goes with great speed in the surrounding space. While rotating BH slows down to (in theory) zero. But what is especially important, because of the concentration of the boson clouds in the area BH significant number of bosons and other particles will be very serious accelerated, exceeding by its parameters the conditions that are able to create in the best accelerators.
But how to register dispersed black hole " axions"? The process of acceleration of large masses such particles should generate gravitational waves, which can then be measured.
"Axions " are bosons. In other words, in contrast to fermion, they can be in the same quantum state; around the black hole can be formed whole "clouds" of such bosons. However, over time these clouds can collapsibility, forming what scientists call "boson new," "flash" bosons, actively flying in all directions. If in the cloud before the collapse thanks to the Penrose process will accumulate enough energy collapse will cause severe distortion of space-time, gravitational waves, which will be possible to register even on Earth.
According to the calculations of the researchers, the desired sensitivity construction of detectors of gravitational waves will be achieved by 2016, so wait for the use of BH as accelerators left is not so long.
