The international space station may take evasive action against debris on Monday, but it may only slightly delay the docking private Dragon spacecraft with ISS, told journalists the Director of the ISS program at NASA Michael Suffredini.
Dragon will embark on its first "commercial" flight to the ISS on October 7 in 20.34 local time (04.34 eighth of October, Moscow time) from Baikonur launch site at Cape Canaveral. In may Dragon already has flown to the station with a load, but the flight was considered a demonstration.
Suffredini noted that, according to experts, on Monday, may rapprochement ISS space debris, which may require correction of an orbit of the station.
"So far everything looks good, most likely, the correction will need" - said Suffredini at a press conference at NASA.
According to him, if NASA and the ISS partners will make a decision about the necessity of correction of orbit, the Agency together with SpaceX will adjust the flight plan of the ship.
At the same time, Suffredini stressed that we are talking only about the delay in the dock, but not abolish the start of the vehicle.
"I can't imagine a scenario in which we will ask for SpaceX to postpone the launch" - said the representative of NASA.
President SpaceX'quinn Shotwell (Gwynn Shotwell) said that if the launch will take place on schedule, rendezvous and docking with the ISS will happen in about 53 hours after the start of the ship. To join Dragon by using the station's robot arm this time will be an astronaut Akihiko Hoshide and Sanita Williams.
According to Shotwell, this time SpaceX will not be doing a special testing systems of communication and GPS vehicle that were part of the program of the may demonstration flight, because "we were able to verify that everything is working staff".
