Bolivia returned 700-year-old mummy in Peru, where it was stolen by antiquity dealers. The mummy of a young child about two years has only 30 cm in height and is in sitting position, wrapped in a blanket.
Police Bolivia confiscated it from the woman who was going to send it to France. The experts confirmed the authenticity, but found that one of the legs of the mummy was added later, presumably smugglers, who wanted to raise its value.
Experts could not determine the sex of the mummy, but believe that it refers to the culture of the Incas, who lived in coastal Peru.
Bolivian Minister of culture Pablo GRU gave mummy to his Peruvian counterpart Luis Peyrano, at the ceremony in the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Peru in Lima. The Ministers also signed an agreement to improve their cooperation in the fight against contraband of cultural valuables.
Peru, located in the center of culture of the Incas and other civilizations that preceded the Incas, is suffering from thousands of robberies their relics stolen over the centuries.
Peruvian officials say trade mummies had previously been less common, although recently there has been an increase in the trade of human remains".
